Tim David's ODI Future Uncertain

In recent times, Australian cricket has seen notable players like all-rounders Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis, along with star batsman Steve Smith, stepping away from the 50-over format. As Australia gears up for the 2027 ODI World Cup, all-rounder Tim David has shared his thoughts on his uncertain future in One-Day Internationals (ODIs).

Tim David, who has made a name for himself in T20 cricket, expressed that returning to the ODI format is not currently on his agenda. He mentioned that while he is in discussions with his coaches, his primary focus is on the upcoming T20 World Cup and the busy schedule ahead.

David stated:

"Definitely having conversations in the background with my coaches, and people that I want to talk to about my game at the moment. I'm not too sure, to be honest. It's not the immediate plan. We've got such a busy year, to be honest, leading up to this T20 World Cup."

He further elaborated:

"The winter actually looks quite different for me this year. Previously, I would have been away for four or five months in a row over the winter playing competitions. And now we've got so many T20 series that there's not much time to think about much else. So we'll see how that develops. But, at the moment, no plans."

David's experience in ODIs has been quite limited, having played just four matches for Australia, where he scored 45 runs and took one wicket. His domestic ODI experience is also minimal, with only one match for Tasmania back in 2021.

Following Australia's early exit from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Steve Smith also announced his retirement from ODIs, paving the way for a new generation of players as the team transitions ahead of the next major tournament.
