The man consulted AI for stomach pain and ended up in the hospital, but he actually had an anxiety attack. Chatbot advice given without human understanding is becoming a new concern for mental health.

In Mumbai, a 14-year-old boy was taken to the emergency ward of Apollo Hospital after he complained of stomach pain. Several medical tests were conducted there but no physical illness was found. Then the child's mother told that the child had consulted chat bots about his health. The chat bots linked the symptoms mentioned by the child to a gastro problem and advised to take him to the hospital immediately. When some experts looked at this case, it was found that the child was not suffering from stomach pain but from a severe anxiety attack. He was under mental pressure due to constant bullying by seniors in school. This stress was becoming the reason for his physical symptoms.

AI is making wrong diagnosis

Some experts say that recently they have seen many such cases in which patients took mental health advice from AI chat bots and their condition worsened. Regarding this, experts further say that AI listens to your words and also responds but cannot see you or feel you. At the same time, a machine cannot understand the importance of real connection in life. That is why AI sometimes gives you wrong advice, including health.

Advice from AI chatbots, but who's responsible?

Nowadays many people take help of AI chatbots for mental problems. Because AI chatbots provide private and non-judgmental space. But experts believe that using AI chatbots in this way is not free from danger. According to a report by Stanford University, AI tools are not an option for effective medical health. It can also ignore serious mental conditions. At the same time, AI can also give many wrong advice to people struggling with mental health.

Take help from AI but understand its limitations

A survey conducted in the US found that about 50 percent of people who are using AI tools actually want therapy-like conversations. AI can be a limited option in resource-poor areas. But it is not reliable and safe. It cannot fulfill moral responsibilities like humans. Therefore, it can also pose a threat to people.

Technology is important but cannot replace humans

AI based tools can sometimes provide positive support, mood tracking or any other kind of information. But it cannot be a substitute for treatment. In fact, a machine cannot provide the sensitivity that a human therapist can experience and understand. That is why it is necessary that AI should be used in a limited role and only expert advice should be taken in serious problems related to mental health.
