In a heart-wrenching incident, a 28-year-old woman identified as Radha has been arrested for allegedly drowning her 45-day-old baby boy in a water drum. The incident occurred in Vishweshwarapura within the Nelamangala Town Police Station limits.
According to police, Radha was living at her mother’s house along with her infant son and husband, Pavan, an autorickshaw driver allegedly struggling with alcoholism. Reports suggest that Pavan often slept in his auto at night and frequent quarrels between the couple had created a tense household environment.
During initial interrogation, Radha reportedly confessed to the crime and cited multiple distressing factors — including severe poverty, lack of support from her alcoholic husband, inability to breastfeed, and overwhelming stress in caring for the child — as the reasons behind her drastic action.
The Nelamangala Town Police have taken Radha into custody and registered a case under relevant sections. Further investigation is underway to verify her mental condition and the exact circumstances that led to the incident.
Authorities have described the case as a deeply disturbing example of maternal despair exacerbated by poverty and domestic issues. Social workers and child protection officers are also being involved for further assessment.
