How did a railway employee become the Father of Namibia, who will pay tribute to PM Modi

Dr. Nujoma became the first President of Namibia.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will go to Namibia at the end of his visit to five countries. There, Founding Father of Namibia will pay tribute to Dr. Sam Nujoma. Apart from this, Namibia President Netumbo will hold bilateral talks with Nandi Nadaitwa. It is likely that Prime Minister Modi should also address the Parliament of Namibia. Let's know who was Namibia's founding Father Dr. Sam Nujoma?

Dr. Sam Sam Nuzoma was a revolutionary leader of Namibia in 1990 from the white rule of South Africa. He became the first President of the country and held this position for 15 years. He died at the age of 95 in February (2025) this year. Dr. Sam Nujoma, the eldest son of a farmer family in a northern village in Atunda, did a little more schooling from primary. His wife's name was Kovambo Theopoldine Katjimune, from whom he had four children.

The country was a victim of violence and looting

Namibia was earlier called South West Africa, who was a victim of looting and imperialist violence of Europeans for decades. It started in the year 1904, when thousands of people from Germany destroyed thousands of people in Namibia. Germany then used black Africans for this crime. Later, the Nazis did the same during Holocost. Namibia remained under Germany from 1884 to 1915.

With the first world war, Namibia came out of the hands of Germany and came under the rule of South Africa. The then South African rule continued racial discrimination here and refused to give any kind of political rights to the black people of Namibia. Also limited social and economic freedom.

This is how inspiration was found

Dr. Nujoma had a keen interest in politics while working as a railway employee in the era of slavery. He wanted to see the people of his country free from injustice and imperialist rule. This is the year 1966. The guerrilla war broke out in Namibia. By then, Dr. Sam Nuzoma had become an important part in the fight against Ghori government.

He got his inspiration from the first leaders such as Hendrik Witboi to fight for Namibia's independence, who fought against Germany in the 1880s. By the year 1959, he became the head of Owamboland people Organization, who was agitating for Namibia's independence.

Refused as soon as the head of the revolutionary party became

A year after becoming the head of the organization, Dr. Nujoma was expelled from the country at the age of 30. Without any passport, he reached Jambia and then Tanzania while traveling with trains and aircraft in different forms. With the help of supporting officers of the freedom of the people of Namibia, he reached New York and filed a petition for the independence of Namibia in the United Nations, but South Africa refused. At the same time, South Africa called him a Marxist terrorist.

Freedom got after 25 years of fighting

Meanwhile, with the help of Cuba forces fighting in the neighboring country Angola, guerrilla fighters of Namibia started attacking the base of South Africa in Namibia. On the other hand, Dr. Nujoma reached Namibia after exile, then South African officers arrested again and sent them to Zambia for six years. From there, he continued to lead guerrilla fighters. Finally, in the year 1988, South Africa agreed to Namibia's independence. A year later, Dr. Nuzoma returned home in 1989. After the freedom struggle of 25 years, Namibia got independence in the year 1990.

President was made for the first time in the year 1990

In 1990, for the first time, democratic elections were held in Namibia. Dr. Nujoma's party won by an overwhelming majority and was made the first President of the country. After this, he left no stone unturned in the creation of his country. He was very worried after seeing the plight of children in his country. Therefore, he made a provision for allowance for the upbringing of children. To improve the condition of women, they took steps to break the traditional patriarchal system. After the death of her husband, the practice of evacuating the widows from the house was banned. For the development of the country, he kept making every effort to maintain stability.

In the years 1994 and 1999, he was elected President twice again. In 2005, he quit power and also left the post of his party head in 2007 and handed over power to his successor Hifikepunye Pohamba.
