ICC Test Rankings: The ICC on Wednesday announced the latest rankings and there has been a big upheaval in the world of Test cricket. In these latest rankings, Indian Test team captain Shubman Gill has taken a big leap. Gill has reached the best ranking of his Test career. Gill has reached the sixth position in his Test career. At the same time, England’s legendary batsman Joe Root has been surpassed by his own teammate Harry Brook. Harry Brook is now at the top of the batsmen’s rankings.
Shubman Gill has been in fine form in the two matches of the ongoing five-match Test series against England. In the second Test, Gill also broke several records. He scored 269 runs in the first innings and 161 runs in the second innings of the Edgbaston Test. He became the second player in history to score more than 150 runs in both innings of a Test match.
Gill has jumped 15 places in the Test rankings for batsmen. He started the current series at 23rd position and is now at 6th position. If his performance in this series continues, he could reach the top spot by the end of the series.
Meanwhile, England’s Harry Brooke scored 158 in the first innings of the second Test in Birmingham, which has moved him up one place in the Test rankings for batsmen. Brooke had previously been the number-one Test batsman for a week in December last year. England wicketkeeper-batsman Jamie Smith has also benefited from this move, moving up 16 places to enter the top-10 for the first time with unbeaten 184 and 88.
Ravindra Jadeja, who scored 89 and 69 in the Edgbaston Test, has moved up six places to 39th. Indian bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep also improved their Test bowling rankings. Siraj and Akash Deep have moved up to 22nd and 45th respectively.
South Africa’s Wian Mulder, who scored a record-breaking 367 not out against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo, has jumped 34 places to a career-best 22nd in the batting rankings. He also took three wickets, which has taken him four places to 48th in the bowlers’ list.
