New Delhi: European champions Paris Saint-Germain mauled Real Madrid 4-0 in the FIFA Club World Cup semi-final and will battle Chelsea for the title on Sunday.

PSG killed off the contest within the first half hour itself with three goals that left Madrid shell-shocked at the MetLife Stadium.

Man of the match Fabian Ruiz scored on either side of a breakaway goal from Ousmane Dembele as Goncalo Ramos PSG capped off their victory three minutes from time.

Kylian Mbappe made his first start in the tournament, but even he was powerless to lead a comeback for Madrid against his former club.

Having won the Ligue 1 title, Coupe de France and UEFA Champions League, PSG are now only one win away from a quadruple of titles under coach Luis Enrique.

Real Madrid had to reshuffle their defence after the unavailability of new signing right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold with muscle discomfort and the suspension of Dean Huijsen.

Madrid boss Xabi Alonso picked Raul Albiol for Huijsen, but he erred in giving away the ball that led to Ruiz slotting in the first goal in the sixth minute.

Before Madrid could collect themselves, A Asensio’s central defensive partner, Antonio Rudige, also committed a mistake while kicking away the ball as Dembele gleefully marched forward and placed the ball into the net three minutes later.

Madrid failed to recover from those self-inflicted setbacks and were left powerless when PSG launched a typical lightning-quick counterattack with Ruiz easily converting the move in the 24th minute.

Madrid did try to find a way to breach PSG’s rearguard but were unable to create genuine openings. PSG then stamped their authority three minutes from regulation time when substitute Ramos turned and executed a marvellous finish after some intricate build-up play.
