Washington. Apple has appointed Indian-Origin Sabih Khan of Indian origin as its new Chief Operating Officer. They will replace Jeff Williams, who are retiring later this year. Sabih Khan has been working in Apple for the last 30 years and is currently the Senior Vice President of Operations.
Sabih Khan was born in 1966 in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh in Uttar Pradesh. During school days, he moved to Singapore with his family and later settled in America. He obtained a degree in Economics and Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University and then did a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from RPI.
In 1995, he joined Apple, but had earlier worked as an engineer in GE Plastics. In Apple, he played an important role in strengthening the company’s global supply chain, manufacturing and sustainability programs.
Tim Cook told the mastermind of supply chain
Apple’s CEO Tim Cook has described Sabih Khan as the mastermind of the company’s supply chain. He said, “Sabih is a great strategist who has played an important role in bringing Apple’s products worldwide. He promoted new manufacturing techniques, increased production in the US and reduced Apple’s carbon footprint to 60% for environmental protection by 60%.” Cook also credited Jeff Williams and said that he had a huge contribution to Apple’s global success.
New responsibilities and changes
Sabih Khan will hold a new position by the end of this month. Jeff Williams will oversee the design team and Apple Watch until he retires. After his departure, the design team will report directly to Tim Cook. This change is considered a major step for Apple’s future, where Sabih Khan’s leadership ability can take the company to new heights.
