In a tragic turn of events, a young man has drowned in a mere nine inches of water in what is being termed a shocking "freak paddling pool accident." Roan Bloore, a 24 year old from Doncaster, was found unresponsive after it's believed he collapsed while cleaning out a paddling pool used by his nieces and nephews. He remained under the water for 10 minutes before being found.
Emergency services' valiant attempts to revive him only temporarily brought back his heartbeat, but Roan sadly succumbed to organ failure due to oxygen deprivation to his brain. He passed away on June 26. Roan's father, Michael, poignantly disclosed that he and his wife were unable to say goodbye to their son due to being stranded in traffic. Absolutely heartbroken, Michael told MailOnline: "I'm ripped to pieces, one of my babies is gone. I had four children and now I have three.", reports Yorkshire Live.
While vacationing in Devon, South Yorkshire, the couple rushed back to Doncaster upon hearing the catastrophic news, with the police offering assistance to get them to the hospital where Roan lay. As reported by the Mirror, they tragically arrived just "by 10 minutes." Overcome with grief, Michael shared: "It's like a nightmare I can't wake up from. I have to stay strong for my wife who is in absolute pieces," lamented the distraught former telecommunications worker.
He described the tragic incident as a "freak accident" and urged that everyone should be watched around water, irrespective of how shallow. Michael revealed his brother Deklan was at the hospital, assisting paramedics with CPR and was by Roan's side in his final moments.
He said: "At the age of 24 and he's drowned when his brother is a lifeguard, it just seems so strange to me. If he had been swept to sea I would understand more. It's just horrible, I've been an absolute zombie." Roan's sister Abigail has initiated a GoFundMe to help their parents cover the funeral costs. According to the GoFundMe page: "His parents are on benefits due to medical issues and don't have much money available for the funeral. they've applied for help from the DWP but this only covers up to £1,000. The price of the funeral we are wanting is only £2,250. its nothing too big. I know people don't have to help but any help is appreciated more than you can imagine."
Sister Katie honoured Roan's memory and extended her gratitude to the emergency services in a heartfelt Facebook message: "R.I.P Roan Bloore i love you more than words can say we will forever miss you big bro hope you have fun up there. I am echoing what my mum has said. I wasn't going to post anything until my parents did.
"I would like to thank close family, friends, neighbours, NHS and the police for all that you did to help. It comes with so much sadness that our boy Roan Bloore didn't make it, and passed away in the early hours on the 26 June."
The family expressed their gratitude, saying: "Our hearts are truly broken. Again, thank you for all that you did. Xxx".
The fundraising campaign has since amassed £1,467 of its £1,600 target. The fundraiser can be viewed by clicking here.
