How to file ITR for the deceased?
First of all, register yourself as the legal heir of the deceased on the e-filing portal.
Fill all the necessary details such as the PAN card number of the deceased, date of birth, date of death.
Along with this, enter your PAN card number, your relationship with the deceased.
Now upload all the necessary documents like death certificate, succession certificate, will, affidavit etc.
Then click on submit.
Now the Income Tax Department will review your application. As soon as the request is approved, that is, as soon as your identity is accepted by the department, you will be able to file ITR for the deceased for the year in which he died.
Now go to your e-filing account and log in as legal heir.
Then choose the filing option and assessment year.
Click on the option of File as Legal Heir, select the PAN of the deceased and fill the ITR form.
