Superman Twitter Reviews: David Corenswet starrer 'has its flaws', but still a 'masterpiece'

In a cinematic landscape often weighed down by franchise fatigue, James Gunn ’s Superman has finally landed in cinemas in India. If early Twitter reactions are anything to go by, it might just be the jolt of hope the superhero genre desperately needed.
The first wave of audience feedback, pouring in after the film’s preview shows, paints a mostly glowing picture of a movie that captures the spirit of the Man of Steel in a way that feels both nostalgic and freshly relevant. While not without its flaws, Superman is being widely praised for its tone, performances, and comic book accuracy.
Many fans are calling Superman a “comic book come to life”, celebrating the way Gunn blends classic optimism with modern sensibility. One user declared, “An absolute masterpiece... THIS is Superman.” Others described it as “hopeful, kind, a little dorky,” applauding the emotional tone as a return to the hero’s roots.
David Corenswet ’s portrayal of Clark Kent/Kal-El is being heralded as one of the film’s standout elements. A particularly heartfelt tweet stated, “He’s going to be to kids what Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man was to me... a role model, big brother, and hero.” His chemistry with Lois Lane ( Rachel Brosnahan ) is also earning praise, with one fan noting, “Finally, there is chemistry between Superman and Lois.”
The supporting cast doesn’t go unnoticed either, with Mr. Terrific and Jimmy Olsen being named MVPs by more than one viewer. Krypto the Superdog, who brings comic relief and charm, has even sparked demands for a spin-off.
That said, not all reviews are glowing. Several viewers pointed out shortcomings in the film’s story depth and pacing. While the visuals and action sequences were mostly lauded, some felt the narrative lacked emotional weight. One tweet noted, “James Gunn does an okay job, but it doesn’t soar as high as expected.” Another added, “Could have made it a bit longer and a more dense storyline.”
Still, the film’s commitment to themes of hope, truth, and resisting misinformation and corruption has struck a chord with audiences in today’s climate. One reviewer remarked, “What I did not expect was the poignant take on genocidal dictators, corrupt politicians, and bot-fueled misinformation. Touche.”
Superman follows Clark Kent as he juggles life as a mild-mannered reporter at the Daily Planet with his responsibilities as Earth’s greatest protector. Set in a world where truth is murky and heroism often misunderstood, the film explores Superman’s struggle to stay hopeful and human in the face of overwhelming cynicism and cosmic threats.
Audiences are also introduced to a new “pocket universe” concept, black holes, and other science-fiction elements, giving the film a distinctly comic book edge that sets it apart from more grounded superhero outings.
The ensemble cast includes David Corenswet as Clark Kent aka Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner aka Green Lantern, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen and Milly Alcock as Supergirl.
The film releases in cinemas nationwide, Friday, July 11.
