Tesla has switched to power boost mode as the Elon Muskled company is expected to start its first batch of electric cars in India by August. The U.S. company will be directly importing the vehicles from its Shanghai manufacturing plant in China. Tesla is all set to open its first dealership in Mumbai on July 15. According to Bloomberg, once officially open, the customers will have total access to the price and variants available in the Indian market. The Model Y SUV is expected to be the first vehicle from Tesla to make its debut here.
Tesla is set to make its official debut in India on July 15 with the opening of its first showroom in Mumbai’s Maker Maxity Mall in the Bandra Kurla Complex. According to CNBC, the launch event for the Tesla “Experience Center” is scheduled for July 15 and will run for an hour and a half, introducing Indian consumers to the brand’s electric vehicles and technology.
According to Bloomberg, the deliveries of the first batch of Tesla vehicles will begin in late August. Apart from launching the dealership, the experience centre will introduce the customers to the Tesla vehicles, and they can choose and configure the EVs. Based on a Bloomberg report, the first batch of madeinChina Model Ys has already arrived in Mumbai. Based on the official documents, these electric vehicles were declared at Rs 2.77 million (about $31,988) each and faced import duties exceeding Rs 2.1 million per car due to India’s 70% tariff on fully built imported vehicles.
Based on the report, buyers in Delhi will not have to wait too long, as the Tesla dealership could open up as early as the end of July. Currently, Tesla has shown no interest in setting up a manufacturing facility here in India despite ongoing efforts by the government. The EV company will stick to the direct import route.
