Kotwal Bhuteshwar Mahadev of Mathura

Sawan 2025: Lord Bhuteshwar Mahadev is the Kotwal of Mathura. This temple of Lord Shiva is spread over 100 square meters in Mathura. Bhuteshwar Mahadev Temple provides a glimpse of the rich history and spirituality of Mathura. Devotees from far and wide come here to visit in Sawan.

In order to conquer Lanka, just as Lord Rama established Rameshwar and worshiped, in the same way Shatrughan, by worshiping Lord Rama, worshiped Bhuteshwar Mahadev and killed Mathura from the demon and established his kingdom here.

Mythology related to Bhuteshwar Mahadev

In the Treta Yuga, there were two demons named Madhu and Catchup which was slaughtered by Chandi. Madhu's son became Lavanasura. Lavanasura did penance and asked Lord Bhuteshwar, Ajay i.e. Trishul boon. Lord Shiva gave a boon to Lavanasura that until the trident in the palace, no one will be able to kill you. After getting the boon, Lavanasura was freed from the fear of death and created terror in Mathura. Lavanasura did not let the sage sages perform yagna and started killing them. Unhappy with this, the sage-monk took a sense of defense and reached Ayodhya, where Lord Rama's kingdom was. The sage sages begged Lord Rama to send Shatrughan to Mathura to protect him and declare him the king of Mathura. Lord Rama ordered Shatrughan to go to Mathura to protect the sages.

Shatrughan reached Mathura but could not conquer Lavanasura even after three wars. Desperate Shatrughan came back to Ayodhya and told Lord Rama not to win even after three wars. On this, Shri Ram asked him to go back to Mathura and pray to Bhuteshwar Mahadev before the war, just as Sri Rama worshiped with the Vanar Sena in Rameswaram before climbing Lanka. Shatrughan did exactly the same and killed Lavanasura and established a kingdom on Mathura.

Glory of Lord Bhuteshwar associated with Dwapar Yuga

In the Dwapara Yuga, the glory of Lord Bhuteshwar is described. Lord Shri Krishna stayed in Gokul for 5 years. Leela for 7 years. Kansa was killed at the age of 11 years 28 days. After this, he went to Dwarka. When he returned to Mathura again at the end of the war of Kurukshetra, the parents reminded him that he had pledged to travel to Char Dham which he should fulfill. Shri Krishna said that I am alone and you are four, so all the four dham and 33 Koti deities are invited to the bridge itself. After this, the deity sitting where Lord Krishna grazed where the cow grazed, hence it is also called Goloka. Ganga ji and Kashi Vishwanath did not come. On this, Ganga ji said that to reach Mathura, Yamuna ji will have to cross, which will make the sister's honor. Shri Krishna incarnated Ganga ji as Mansi Ganga. Similarly, Lord Kashi Vishwanath said that the presence of Bhuteshwar Mahadev in Mathura and said that he should be present in Braj as Lord Bhuteshwar Mahadev. Lord Bholenath said that you should make Bhuteshwar Kotwal in your area and Shri Krishna has made it the owner of eighty -four Kos, so Bhuteshwar Mahadev is called Kotwal of Mathura. Another feature of this temple is that it is said that the hair of Mata Shakti fell here. It is one of the 52 Shaktipeeths, for which Mahadev is present in Bhairav form to protect.
