Lord’s: In the third Test match being played between India and England at Lord’s, Jaspreet Bumrah took five wickets and restricted England to 387 runs. ICC’s number one bowler Jaspreet Bumrah has achieved a big feat in the World Test Championship with this five wicket haul. He has become the player to take the most five wickets in an innings for India in the World Test Championship.
Bumrah took a wicket on the first day of the game by bowling Harry Brook. Then on the second day on Friday, he took his first wicket by dismissing England Test captain Ben Stokes (44) and then in his next over he dismissed Joe Root (104) and Chris Woakes (0) on two consecutive balls. Bumrah completed his five-wicket haul by dismissing Jofra Archer (4) in the second session at Lord’s.
He took 5 wickets for 74 runs in 27 overs in the first innings. By taking five wickets in the first innings of the third Test match played between India and England at Lord’s, Bumrah took five wickets in an innings 12 times in 37 matches in the World Test Championship (WTC). He broke Ravichandran Ashwin’s record. Former Indian spinner Ashwin played 41 WTC matches for India from July 2019 to December 2024 and took five wickets in an innings 11 times. Australia’s Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon are in third place with five wickets in an innings 10 times each.

Due to workload management, Bumrah could not play the second Test at Edgbaston. But in the first Test, Bumrah took five wickets. He took five wickets for 83 runs in the first innings of the Leeds Test played from 20 to 20 June. With this, he equaled Ashwin’s record in the World Test Championship.
With this five-wicket haul, Bumrah equaled Wasim Akram’s record of taking 11 five-wicket hauls in Test matches played in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia) countries. No Asian bowler has more five-wicket hauls than Akram and Bumrah. During his 17-year Test career, Akram played 32 Tests in SENA countries and took 146 wickets. Bumrah, on the other hand, has taken 155 wickets in 33 Test matches played in SENA countries so far.
