Now the Income Tax Department's eye is not limited to your tax returns, but also on every small and big change in your profile. If you want to update your mobile number or email ID on the Income Tax e-filing portal, then now just a click will not work. You will first have to get OTP verification done from Aadhaar.
Why is Aadhaar verification necessary?
The purpose of this new rule is clear: to prevent any unauthorized change. In the recent past, many such cases have come to light where the wrong people used to change the details by tampering with someone else's profile, due to which both control and communication on the account came into their hands. But now it will not be so easy to do so.
The mandatory requirement of Aadhaar OTP will ensure that only the person who is the rightful owner of that profile can change their contact details. That is, now your identity will be thoroughly checked even for updating the mobile number or email ID.
This will be a big change.
Not only this, but another big change has come into effect from July 1. Now, for those who want to get a new PAN, it has also been made mandatory to provide Aadhaar. Not only will it be mandatory to provide an Aadhaar number, but it will also be mandatory to get it verified online.
According to the new rule of CBDT, PAN application will be considered valid only when the applicant's Aadhaar number is registered and its verification is complete. This means that now the process of getting a PAN has become stricter.
The government says that these changes will make the tax system more transparent. Also, problems like duplicate PAN will also be curbed. Aadhaar linking will strengthen the digital system, and cases of fraud will be reduced. Overall, now it is necessary to have an Aadhaar card before making any changes in the profile or getting a new PAN, otherwise, the matter will not proceed further.
