Sawan 2025: The Mahadev temple of Devbaloda located in Durg district of Chhattisgarh is not only a center of religious faith, but it is also a living example of history and craftsmanship. The importance of this temple increases further in the holy month of Sawan, when a crowd of Shiva devotees throngs here. This temple is incomplete like this, but its grandeur and beliefs associated with stories make it complete for every devotee.
This temple, built by the Kalchuri rulers in the 13th century, is still incomplete, but its sculpture and architecture are so amazing that it is compared to the temples of Khajuraho. Every year on Mahashivaratri, a huge fair is held here and it is believed that the Shivling installed in this temple is self -proclaimed, that is, it has come out from the earth itself.
The Shivalinga installed in this Shiva temple of Devbaloda is believed to be manifested with geology. Devotees believe that in this temple, Lord Shiva himself protects Nag. This is the reason that the influx of visitors for darshan remains throughout the year.
This temple is located only 20 km from Durg district headquarters. It was built by the Kalchuri kings in the 13th century and has been declared an archaeological monument of national importance under the 1958 Act. Seeing the craftsmanship of the temple, it is compared to Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh and Bhoramdev Temple in Chhattisgarh.
There is a poignant story associated with this temple. It is said that the craftsman who made it used to do construction work naked and his wife used to come to give him food every day. But one day his sister brought food, seeing that Shilpi jumped into the pool in shame and he gave his life. Later, the sister also jumped into the nearby pond. This is the reason that the upper part of the temple remained incomplete.
The pool inside the temple is filled with water throughout the year. It is believed that this pool has a secret tunnel, which goes directly to another temple located in Arang. This mystery still attracts people and deepens the mythology of this place.
The pond in which Shilpi’s sister killed, today is called Karsa Talab. Its story is still fresh on the tongue of the people and every year the devotees who come here pay homage at this place.
Devotees believe that every wish is fulfilled by worshiping with true heart in this temple. In particular, in the month of Sawan, a large crowd of Shiva devotees throng here and the atmosphere resonates with the joy of Har-Har Mahadev.
Every year a huge fair is organized in the temple on the auspicious occasion of Mahashivaratri, where devotees from far and wide come to see Baba Bholenath. During this time, the whole area is colored in the color of devotion and reverence.
Although this temple remained incomplete at the time of construction, it is a full temple in terms of reverence. Statues carved on its walls, beliefs to story-stories and unwavering belief of devotees give it perfection.
This temple becomes the center of special attraction in the month of Sawan. Devotees believe that Lord Shiva is particularly happy by worshiping here and provides happiness and prosperity in life.
