Read desk. Apple is preparing to launch its upcoming iPhone 17 lineup in September. It is expected that Apple will launch a completely new variant in the upcoming iPhone 17 lineup, which will be named iPhone 17 Air, which will be included in the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max model. Here is a brief description of alleged specifications including change in design, battery upgrades, screen features, camera improvement, expected launch schedule and others.
If Apple maintains its traditional launch pattern, the iPhone 17 lineup can be officially unveiled on 8 September, which will be available for the general public from Friday, 19 September. In the last few years, Apple has followed an estimated rollout speed for its major equipment. Although the exact date may change slightly-usually on Monday or Tuesday-pre-order almost always starts on Friday, and sales in delivery and stores start from next Friday.
Prominent leaker Majin Boo has allegedly shared practical photos of the prototype model of the iPhone 17 Pro. Although the device shown is a passive dummy without internal hardware, its dimensions and textures are believed to reflect the final version.
In particular, a major change in the design appears in the back of the phone, in which a major camera module is spread over the rear width. This bold “vizzer -like” camera system is the first time for Apple, although it echoes the design trends adopted earlier by other smartphone manufacturers.
A remarkable change is the place of Apple logo. Like the previous models being focused on the rear panel, the logo now appears below – the base of the device and the newly designed camera strip located almost in the middle.
With the iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, it is expected to be equipped with 12GB RAM, while the standard iPhone 17 can continue 8GB of RAM – which is similar to its predecessor model. Noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also pointed to these possible upgrade, although he has also mentioned the possible challenges to the availability of RAM components. Meanwhile, Apple’s next generation of A19 Pro is expected to be chip in the Pro variants of this lineup, which will provide better performance and energy efficiency.
In a research note in August 2024, analyst Jeff Pu had estimated that a large front camera would be upgraded to all four models of the iPhone 17 lineup, which will reach 24MP sensors – which will double the resolution of the 12MP selfie camera of the iPhone 16 series. This prediction was later repeated by well-known Apple expert Ming-Chi Kuo in January 2024. Apart from this, Pu shared in October 2024 that the iPhone 17 Pro is likely to have a new horizontal triple-camera setup at the back, which will have a 48MP telephoto lens which will be able to give 3.5X optical zoom.
