Walmart 850,000 Ozark Trail Water Bottles Recall. See why and how to get refund?
Walmart has issued a recall for 850,000 stainless steel water bottles. The decision comes after three injury reports, including two cases of permanent vision loss. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission made the announcement on Thursday. The affected product is the Ozark Trail 64 oz Stainless Steel Insulated Water Bottle.

Why is Walmart Recalling Ozark Trail Water Bottles?

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission reported that the product poses a risk of serious impact and laceration. If perishable or carbonated beverages are stored inside for a long time, the lid can eject suddenly. This sudden release may result in facial injuries.

So far, three people have been injured. Two victims suffered permanent vision loss when the cap hit their eyes. The third person also faced injury when struck in the face.

How to Identify Defective Ozark Trail Bottles?

The recalled bottles are identified as Ozark Trail 64 oz Stainless Steel Insulated Water Bottles. They have been sold at Walmart stores nationwide since 2017. While the model number 83-662 is not on the product itself, it can be found on the packaging.

The bottle has a silver stainless-steel base. It includes a black, one-piece screw-on cap. The Ozark Trail logo appears on the side of the bottle. These features help consumers identify the recalled item.

How to Get Refunds from Walmart?

Consumers are asked to stop using the bottle immediately. Walmart has offered a full refund. Buyers can return the bottles to any Walmart store for compensation. Alternatively, customers can contact Walmart directly for further instructions.

Walmart released a statement regarding the incident. It said customer health and safety is a top priority. The company stated it has worked with the CPSC and the manufacturer. It has also removed the bottles from store shelves and notified consumers.

Can Ozark Trail Bottles Be Reused?

Walmart has fully cooperated with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission during the recall process. The CPSC emphasized the urgency of this recall due to the injuries caused. The commission also highlighted the risk of serious facial injury from the ejected lids.

Consumers are advised not to reuse these bottles, especially for milk, juice, or carbonated drinks. Long-term storage of such liquids increases the risk of pressure buildup inside the bottle. This can lead to unexpected ejection when the lid is opened.
