Pakistan Cricket Board: Auditor General of Pakistan has exposed several financial irregularities worth crores of rupees in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), including illegal appointments and contracts.
The irregularities mentioned in the report include payment of Rs 63.39 million (Pakistani) rupees to the police for providing security during international matches and unauthorized appointment of three coaches in the under-16 age group at Karachi’s High Performance Center, with total salary of Rs 5.4 million. It also indicates the allocation of ticket contracts without proper competition.
The report also mentions the match officials as a fee of Rs 3.8 million as a fee and an irregular appointment of media director of Rs 900,000 per month. There have been two different presidents in the 2023-24 season of PCB-Zaka Ashraf from June 2023 to January 2024 and Mohsin Naqvi from February 2024 till now.
The report has directly targeted Naqvi, which mentions unauthorized payments of Rs 4.17 million as a payment of utility fees, POL and housing from February to June 2024. At the same time, Naqvi was also holding the post of Home Minister of Pakistan and all his benefits were under the law.
AG also gave many examples of funds spent without permission: Loss of Rs 198 million due to giving media rights at Rs 22.5 million for bulletproof vehicles, Rs 19.8 million to coaster rental, less than reserved price, loss of Rs 198 million, and irregular allocation of international broadcasting rights without transparent competition.
Board and Naqvi have already been under pressure for some time. It was at its peak during the 2025 Champions Trophy, when Pakistan could not move even beyond the group stage of a domestic ICC tournament.
In his tenure, many coaches and captains have also been replaced. Currently, New Zealand’s Mike Hessen and T20 captain Salman Ali Aga are commanding the team. The team is participating in a camp in Karachi before the tour of Bangladesh next month.
Pakistan and Bangladesh will play three T20 matches from July 20 to start the preparations for the T20 World Cup to be held in India next year.
