Islamabad : A major disclosure of financial irregularities worth crores of rupees has been made in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). According to the report of the Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP), many serious irregularities have taken place in the board like illegal appointments, wasteful expenditure and contracts given without due process. The report has also directly questioned the current chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Mohsin Naqvi. A long list of irregularities has been given during this period.
The Auditor General (AGP) report states that Rs 63.39 lakh was paid to the police for food during international matches, which had no valid approval. Three under-16 coaches were illegally appointed at the Karachi High Performance Center, on whom Rs 54 lakh were spent. After this, match officials were paid an additional fee of Rs 38 lakh. The media director was illegally appointed at a monthly salary of Rs 90 thousand.
This report further states that the ticketing and broadcasting contracts were distributed without any transparent process and there was a loss of Rs 19.8 crore by selling the media rights at a price lower than the fixed rate. One thing is clear from this report that nothing is going right in Pakistan cricket. The board officials are doing such irregularities. Questions have also been raised on the expenses of chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
The report also talks about illegal payments of Rs 41.7 lakh to the current chairman of PCB and Pakistan Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi between February and June 2024. These payments were made in the name of utility bills, petrol and housing allowance, while he was already getting all the facilities as Home Minister.
PCB has been facing criticism for its poor performance and decisions for the past few months. Recently, Pakistan was eliminated from the group stage of the 2025 Champions Trophy hosted by it. During this period, frequent changes in the coaching staff and captains have also raised questions on the functioning of the board.
Currently, New Zealand’s Mike Hesson is the coach of the team and Salman Ali Agha is the T20 captain. The team is currently camping in Karachi, after which it will leave for Bangladesh tour. The three-match T20 series between Pakistan and Bangladesh will start from July 20. This series is considered to be a preparation for the T20 World Cup 2026 to be held in India next year.
