A 56-year-old man living in Kandivali had been suffering from heart disease for the past year. He was diagnosed with bicuspid aortic valve and severe aortic stenosis. The heart’s ability to function was also decreasing day by day. His heart was failing continuously. This is a very serious and almost impossible condition. In such a situation, the patient concerned had been going to private hospitals for treatment for a year. Since this surgery was very complicated and had a high risk of death, the doctors in the private hospital were refusing to perform the surgery.
In such a situation, he was admitted to J.J. Hospital for treatment as he did not have enough money to pay for the treatment. After conducting all the tests on the patient, Dr. Ashish Bhiwapurkar of the Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CVTS) Department of J.J. Hospital decided to perform an immediate surgery on the patient. A free life-saving aortic valve replacement surgery was performed under the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana. The expert doctors involved in this surgery were Dr. Suraj Nagre, Dr. Amreen Sheikh, Dr. Shruti Dubey, Dr. Zareen Rangwala, Dr. Akshay Kumar Verma, Dr. Ruta Sukharamwala, Dr. Tanmay Pandey, as well as the operating room staff Vaishali Degavkar and Pooja More.
