New Delhi. Danielle Smith, Premier (like Chief Minister) of the Canadian province of Alberta, has urged the central government to declare the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang a terrorist organization. With this, Danielle Smith has joined the list of Canadian leaders making such a demand against Lawrence Bishnoi.
In a post on the social media platform X, Danielle Smith said that the Lawrence Bishnoi Gang’s reach is “global, and its intent is criminal and violent” and that its activities “know no boundaries and respect no borders.” Danielle Smith further said, “The Lawrence Bishnoi Gang is an international criminal network responsible for violence, extortion, drug trafficking and targeted killings, including here in Canada. Its reach is global, and its intent is criminal and violent.”
“We know that gang activity knows no boundaries and respects no borders. Alberta wants to send a clear message: you are not welcome here.”
The premier also said that formally designating the Bishnoi gang as a terrorist organisation would unlock significant powers against it. “It will allow provincial and municipal-level law enforcement agencies to effectively disrupt (the gang’s) operations and access the tools and resources necessary to protect our people,” he said.
“Now is the time for action. The Alberta government is calling on the federal government and Premier Mark Carney to join them in taking a stand and working to protect Albertans and all Canadians,” he said.
India has repeatedly
asked Canada to take action against gangsters like Goldie Brar, who was considered a key figure in the Bishnoi network before he allegedly broke away last month. Brar is wanted in the 2022 murder case of singer Sidhu Moose Wala.
Punjab gangster Bishnoi is currently lodged in Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati Central Jail. Notorious for his criminal gangs and ordering murders of his rivals from inside this high-profile prison, Bishnoi is linked to several crimes. This includes allegations against the Canadian government of promoting gang-war in Canada, extortion and other crimes.
