In Bollywood film titles often repeat with no real connection but when the name ‘Karz’ appears it brings more than déjà vu. It brings disaster. Time and again films bearing this title or anything close to it have crashed at the box office some even dragging careers and mental health down with them. Coincidence? Maybe. But the pattern is eerie.
What’s this cursed title?
The word in question is Karz — a name that has repeatedly spelt doom in Hindi cinema. Whether as a standalone title or part of one every movie featuring it has stumbled some straight into the abyss of commercial disaster.
How many films carried the curse?
Rishi Kapoor’s Karz (1980) is considered a cult classic now but didn’t do well on release.
Himesh Reshammiya’s Karzzzz (2008) — a remake of the same — tanked spectacularly.
Other films like Pyaar Ka Karz Doodh Ka Karz Mahaanta Ka Karz Karz Tere Khoon Ka and Karz Chukana Hai followed suit — all flops.
Even Sunny Deol and Shilpa Shetty starred in a version that couldn’t escape the curse.
Did this pattern affect anyone deeply?
Yes. Actor Raj Kiran who played Rishi Kapoor’s past life in Karz vanished from the film industry not long after. Despite his talent and growing popularity Raj reportedly slipped into depression and was never seen in mainstream films again. His disappearance became one of Bollywood’s saddest mysteries.
Is this just a coincidence?
Perhaps. But in a place where superstition meets storytelling such consistent misfortune attached to a single word raises eyebrows. With so many careers rattled and films ruined Karz has become more than a title; its practically a Bollywood warning label.
