According to the IMD weather update (IMD rain alert), monsoon is active across the country and heavy to moderate rainfall is occurring in most states of North India. The Meteorological Department has warned of bad weather in hilly areas for the next 7 days, due to which caution has been advised while traveling.
On July 17, the capital Delhi and surrounding areas will remain cloudy, but the intensity of rain will be less. People are troubled by humidity and heat in Delhi as the intermittent rain is not providing enough relief.
State wise rain status and alert Weather Update
Light to moderate rainfall along with winds blowing at speed of 30–40 km/hr is likely over NCR region today.
Light rainfall is expected in most districts of Haryana and a new western disturbance will become active from July 18, which may cause drizzle with strong winds for the next two days (Haryana weather forecast).
In Punjab, rain will continue in many districts including Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, along with winds will also blow at a speed of 30–40 km/hour.
Waterlogging was observed in Jodhpur, Bikaner and Ajmer in Rajasthan due to heavy rainfall on 16th July. Rain intensity is expected to decrease in eastern Rajasthan from today (Rajasthan weather prediction).
Special alert issued in hilly states
Due to continuous rain in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, situations like landslides and road closures are occurring.
An alert for thunderstorms has been issued in all districts of Uttarakhand. Heavy rain warning has been issued in 9 districts of Himachal Pradesh, and closure of 199 roads has been confirmed (Himachal rain alert).
On the other hand, there is a possibility of continuous heavy rain in the Purvanchal region of Uttar Pradesh from July 17 to 21. An alert of very heavy rain has been issued in the southern parts on July 17.
