The Digi Yatra platform, which makes the journey more convenient and faster for air travelers, has now crossed a new milestone. In a statement released by Digi Yatra Foundation on Friday, it was said that 1.5 crore downloads of Digi Yatra app have been completed. This achievement shows that the acceptance of biometric and contactless entry at the airport in the country is increasing rapidly.
Digi Travel is a self-saving identity (SSI) based application that uses facial identification technology, allowing passengers to complete airport procedures without any physical document. The system, which started in December 2022, has so far applied about 6 crore uninterrupted journeys by applying to 24 airports in the country.
According to the Foundation, at present there are an average of 30,000 downloads per day and by August 2025, there is a possibility of touching the figure of 1.65 crore downloads. This app is now setting a new standard in Indian Digital Travel Innovation and becoming a reliable companion of passengers.
The goal of Digi Yatra is to serve 80 percent of the country’s domestic air travelers by the year 2028, which is currently 30-35 percent. For this, the possibilities of integration with airlines and online travel agencies are being searched to improve boarding pass sharing.
Suresh Khadkabhvi, CEO of Digi Yatra Foundation, said, “Crossing the 1.5 crore users’ figures is a proof of people’s growing trust on the uninterrupted, safe and travel experience for future. The D-KYC campaign in 2024 and expansion to Tier-2 airports helped us to connect more and more passengers.”
He further stated that in the coming times the foundation will be on increasing access, improving user facilities, and setting global standards in the field of passenger identification management.
The Digi Yatra will implement its biometric -based system at four additional airports like Chandigarh, Thiruvananthapuram, Mangaluru and Srinagar in the coming months. Along with this, this platform is also planning to start support in 22 official Indian languages, so that passengers can easily understand and complete airport procedures in their mother tongue itself.
This growing popularity of Digi Yatra is taking India’s digital transformation to new heights, where air travel is now becoming more smart, safe and comfortable than ever before.
