A major road accident caught the interest of social media when an ultraluxury RollsRoyce crashed into a divider in Bangladesh. Initial reports have stated that one person was critically injured. The accident took place at the Purbachal Expressway near Dhaka. Media reports have suggested that this could be the most expensive road accident in Bangladesh.
The RollsRoyce Spectre belongs to Abdur Sabur, chairman of the Masko Group, and the owner’s son, Ahmed Arif Billah, managing director, Masco Group, was behind the wheel. There were four occupants in the car, and only Billah sustained injuries, while the other three received minor injuries. All four were sent to the Ever Care Hospital in Dhaka. The authorities have kept the other three’s identities under wraps.
In an official statement, the police said that the person behind the wheel lost control of the car at high speed and smashed into a concrete road divider. Rupganj Police Station OfficerinCharge Md Tariqul Islam confirmed that it was a highspeed accident and the car is severely damaged. He said, “The car was moving at high speed, which likely contributed to the severity of the crash. We are investigating the circumstances, including potential factors like road conditions or driver error.” Currently, the police have not revealed whether any charges have been filed.
The allelectric Spectre was a brand new car and had an AFR (applied for registration) sign in place of a number plate.
Social media platforms are buzzing after they saw video clips and photos of the RollsRoyce accident. They roasted the driver on Facebook with comments like “On the bright side, the passengers got to experience the ‘crash’ course in driving a Rolls Royce” by Emon Khan.
Many were even asking whether it was legal to drive the car without a licence plate. “Where is the number plate? It’s completely illegal to drive. It’s a punishable offence. I hope the law and enforcement team will take care,” says Sabbir Ahmad.
Khandaker R. Zaman posted, “I would like to know if proper duties and taxes were duly paid when imported. And why AFR and not a registration plate with a number?”
The Spectre is RollsRoyce’s first allelectric vehicle in its illustrious history. The twodoor vehicle is powered by twin motors and has a power output of 576 bhp and 900 Nm of torque. It offers a realworld range of around 450 km. According to RollsRoyce, the Spectre does 0 – 100 kmph in 4.5 seconds. In India, the Spectre starts at Rs 7.5 crore, exshowroom.
