Ai face recognition system: To further strengthen the safety of women, the Government of India is now going to install Artificial Intelligence based face recognition system (FRS) at railway stations. In the Supreme Court, the Central Government has informed that in the first phase, 7 major railway stations of the country will be equipped with this high -tech monitoring system. The move aims to curb the increasing crimes against women.
The first phase under the government’s scheme includes Mumbai CST and New Delhi railway stations. The names of the remaining 5 stations will be revealed soon. Advanced cameras and technical mechanisms will be installed at these places which will be able to identify suspicious faces.
The SAFE City Project for Women Safety has already been implemented in 8 major cities – Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Lucknow. Technology -based monitoring has already started in these cities.

499 IERMS (Integrated Emergency Response Management System) is already active at railway stations. Apart from this, Konkan Railways has installed 740 CCTV cameras at 67 stations. Now the AI based FRS system is also being included in the next phase.
Senior Advocate Mahalakshmi Pawani told the court that “58.8 lakh cases were registered against women in 2018, which increased to 66.4 lakhs in 2022. In 2022, 23.66 lakh cases were pending in court, but the sentence was done only in 38,136 cases.”
