A video is going viral on social media, which has made millions of people sleepy. In the video, a man warns not to pay with a credit card at the petrol pump. It has been claimed that a person swipe the card and in a few days the amount of more than ₹ 1 lakh disappeared from his account. This video has been shared by a user named Sarthak Ahuja and has been seen more than 7 million times so far.

What is card skimming scam?
Card skimming is a type of cyber fraud in which criminals fit a secret device (skimmer) into a POS machine or ATM. When a person swipes the card, the skimmer steals his card details and PIN. Later, money is withdrawn by making clone cards from that information.

Why are petrol pumps the most vulnerable?
POS machines at petrol pump are often in the open, without monitoring. Frauds steal card data by planting skimmers in these machines. According to Cyber Security Expert Rahul Mishra, these fraudsters first transact small money so that no one is suspicious.

How to avoid this fraud?
✔ Avoid swiping cards at an unknown place or petrol pump.

It is a safety technique that protects the card’s radio frequency from scammer. RFID wallets are made of special layers that block scanning waves – especially in metro, market or crowded places.

Call the bank immediately and get the card blocked.
