Chinese actress Huang Yi’s daughter dreams of becoming K-pop idol despite mother’s wish for her to study abroad

According to TheirHuang Yi sparked a debate on education when she revealed that her daughter plans to move to South Korea to become a trainee in hopes of joining a K-pop group. The actress shared that she has had multiple conversations with her daughter, weighing the pros and cons, and advising Huang Qianling to pursue studies abroad. However, Huang Qianlinghas firmly refused.

When Huang Yi asked why she did not want to go to school, her daughter responded: “School is outdated, Mom. It’s not fun at all, students are like machines.”

Huang Yi said she expressed her concerns, explaining that if her daughter went to South Korea to become a trainee, she would face stiff competition from millions of others and would likely receive harsh criticism, much of it negative. She also pointed out that Huang Qianling might not even make it into a girl group.

However, Huang Qianling replied: “You work in the entertainment industry, so why can’t I? You haven’t seen me try—how do you know I can’t do it?”

Huang Yi admitted feeling torn and stressed, struggling with the dilemma of either supporting her daughter’s dream or steering her towards the path she believes is best.

In response to Huang Yi’s situation, many users on Weibo shared their own experiences of differing views with their children.

“Let her be a trainee for a while, and if it doesn’t work out, she’ll come back on her own,” one netizen wrote.

“[Huang Qianling should] prioritize education, knowledge is the sharpest weapon,” another commented.

Huang Yi, 46, is best known for her roles in the TV series “Wrong Carriage, Right Groom” and “My Fair Princess 3,” which made her a household name in the 2000s. She has been a single mother since her divorce in 2014.
