The fate of this year’s Asia Cup which has remained uncertain since the India-Pakistan border tensions in May could be decided at the Asian Cricket Council’s (ACC) annual general meeting on Thursday. The meeting has already attracted attention with the BCCI set to attend virtually and no clarity yet on whether Sri Lanka Cricket will be present in person or online. Rajeev Shukla will represent the BCCI at the meeting. There specualations regarding Afghanistan and Oman missing the meeting but they will also attend the meeting virtually. Although the tournament is scheduled to be held in UAE in September the BCCI retains the hosting rights for the eight team events. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is hosting a high-level ACC meeting for the first time. Aminul Islam the president of the board said they are only providing the ACC with logistical support and declined to comment on the BCCI and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) representatives absence. Thats all we are doing. We are in touch with the ACC who is informing us who is coming and who is not as we have to make arrangements for airport pick-ups hotel bookings and other support. Mohsin Naqvi who leads the PCB and ACC was greeted at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Wednesday by BCB president Aminul Islam and chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury. The two-day meeting will be held at a hotel in Dhaka and there will be a gala dinner that evening.
