Rishabh Pant was hurt on the first day of this match and had to leave the ground. In an attempt to hit a reverse sweep against fast bowler Chris Woakes, the ball was loud on Rishabh Pant’s right toe. Due to this, his thumb fracture has been done. When Rishabh Pant retired on the first day, he was on 37 runs.

Now on the second day, he added 17 runs to his account. During this time, Rishabh Pant stood on one leg and batting and hit a six on Jofra Archer’s ball. Fans and cricket experts are praising Pant’s bravery. Pant has reminded former Indian captain Anil Kumble, who once went down to bowl on the field despite a broken jaw.

Kumble got down and got out of Lara

This incident is of a Test match played against the West Indies in 2002 in St. John’s, Antiga. Kumble had a ball from fast bowler Marvan Dillan during the batting in that match. Kumble batted for 20 minutes in India’s first innings despite bleeding. After this, despite the broken jaw in the first innings of the West Indies, Anil Kumble took 14 consecutive overs. Then Kumble came down to bowl with a bandage on his mouth. Kumble also took the wicket of Brian Lara. That match ended on a draw, but Indian fans have not forgotten that spirit of Kumble.

… When Malcolm Marshall destroyed England

The tour of England was quite memorable for the West Indies in 1984. Then the captaincy of Clive Lloyd was eliminated by the West Indies 5–0. The most heart touching moment of that tour was seen in the third Test played in the leads, when Malcolm Marshall won his team by bowling stormy despite a fracture in the left hand.

In response to 270 runs of England’s first innings in that match, the West Indies team was in trouble as their score was 206/7 at a time. Then Larry Gomes added 82 runs for the eighth wicket with Michael Holding. Joel Garner’s number came after holding dismissal, but two runs were connected in the team’s total score that he was run out. Gomes were then batting for 96 runs. However, the fans were surprised when the Malcolm Marshals came out to bat despite a double fracture in the left thumb.

Malcolm Marshal was hurt while fielding and plaster was offered in his hand. Marshall played only by holding a bat with the right hand. The first ball missed, but hit a four on the next ball. He helped Larry Gomes to complete the century. By the time Marshal was out, the West Indies had got a lead of 32 runs on the basis of first innings. In the second innings, when the England team came out to bat, Marshall forgot the pain and wreaked havoc. He took 7 wickets for 53 runs in 26 overs. England collapsed for just 159 runs in the second innings and the West Indies won by 8 wickets.

Apart from this, there were some occasions when the player killed his team despite being seriously injured.

1. Gary Kirsten: In October 2003, in the Lahore Test match against Pakistan, South African veteran Gary Kirsten was broken. Kirsten had this injury fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar’s short pitch ball. Kirsten had to leave the field for treatment, when Kirsten had retired for 53 runs. But when the condition was bad in the second innings of South Africa, he again landed on the field and scored 46 runs. South Africa definitely lost in that match, but Kirsten won.

2. Graeme Smith: In January 2009, in the Sydney Test match against Australia, South African captain Graeme Smith’s left hand was broken. Then in the first innings of South Africa, Mitchell Johnson’s ball was hit by his hand and he retired for 30 runs. In that match, when the South African team was on the verge of defeat and 9 wickets fell, in the second innings Graeme Smith came to the crease and played 17 balls. Even though the South African team lost, that moment had become history.

3. Burt Sutklif: The spirit showed by New Zealand batsman Burt Satcliffe in the Johannesburg Test match against South Africa in December 1953 was worth it. Satcliffe suffered a serious injury in New Zealand’s first innings. Due to this, the lobe of the ear was torn, but when his team was shattering, he tied the head and came out to bat again and scored an unbeaten 80 runs. South Africa won that Test match by 132 runs, but Satcliffe’s courage is still praised.

4. Colin cowdre: In June 1963, in the Lord’s Test match against the West Indies, English batsman Colin Candrey came out to bat despite plaster in hand. England then had to score 6 runs in two balls to win. The England team could not win, but Cowdre won the heart.

5. Rick McCeskar: In March 1977, in the Melbourne Test match against England, Australia Batter Rick McCar batting with a broken jaw and scored 25 runs. His jaw was broken by the bouncer of Taj bowler Bob Willis. In the second innings, when the Kangaroo team was in good position, McCeskar came to the crease. His innings made mental pressure on the opposition team and Australia won the match by 45 runs.
