In Jammu city, a tragic incident involving the police and drug traffickers has led to the death of a tribal youth, prompting the authorities to initiate a magistrate inquiry. An official spokesperson confirmed that the District Magistrate of Jammu has ordered an investigation into the shooting that occurred on July 24 in the Surai Chak area of the Phallian Mandal.
According to a police spokesperson, the police team was pursuing suspected traffickers when the incident unfolded. Initial reports indicate that gunfire was exchanged on Thursday evening within the jurisdiction of the Satwari police station.
The spokesperson further noted that during the confrontation, an unidentified individual was injured and subsequently transported to the GMC hospital in Jammu, where the youth was later pronounced dead.
In response to the seriousness of the situation, the Senior Superintendent of Police in Jammu has indicated that the District Magistrate has commenced an investigation. The inquiry will be conducted by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Jammu South.
In the wake of the shooting, members of the Gujjar community staged protests on Friday to express their outrage over the youth's death. In a gesture of support, the administration and police have announced a compensation package of 3.5 million rupees and a job offer for the deceased's family.
