The original statue of Govind Dev Ji was in Vrindavan, but it was brought to Jaipur for fear of destroying temples during the rule of the Mughals. This work was done by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, who was a devotee of Lord Krishna. He made a Vastu plan of Jaipur to bring this idol to a safe place.

Story of temple construction

When Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II established Jaipur, he made Govind Dev Ji’s temple the center of the city plan. The place and construction of the temple is said to be done according to the principles of architectural and astronomy. It is also believed that there is no wall between the temple and the palace of the Maharaja, so that the king can visit daily.

Temple architecture

The architecture of Govind Dev Ji Temple has a wonderful mix of Rajasthani and Mughal style. This temple, built of red stone and white marble, is located in a huge courtyard. Its domes, columns and carvings on roofs give it grandeur. The statue of Lord Govind Dev Ji in the sanctum sanctorum makes the devotees feel happy.

Temple beliefs

Devotees believe that the idol of Govind Dev Ji is awake and fulfills wishes. Darshan calms the mind and communicates positive energy. This is the reason that thousands of people in Jaipur start the day with the morning Aarti.
