Renowned Pakistani singer Humaira Channa has revealed that when she began her singing career, her extended family—especially her uncle—cut ties with her father because of her decision to enter showbiz.

Humaira shared this during her appearance on the comedy talk show Mazaaq raatwhere she spoke candidly about her life, career, and the struggles she faced.

She explained that her father was a film producer who initially worked on Sindhi films before moving on to Punjabi and Urdu cinema, and her mother also had a strong interest in the arts.

Although her parents’ support and artistic background made the path to singing somewhat easier, Humaira said that getting opportunities and making a name for herself was still extremely difficult.

She began her singing career at a young age through Radio Pakistan and Pakistan Television (PTV), and worked with renowned composer Nisar Bazmi early in her career.

It was Nisar Bazmi who gave her the opportunity to sing in films for the first time, including all the songs in a movie titled Hum ek hain.

Humaira revealed that a singer-turned-actress who was cast as the heroine in that film clashed with Nisar Bazmi, demanding that she be allowed to sing the songs herself. However, Bazmi refused and kept Humaira as the playback singer.

She added that the hero of the film also had disputes with Nisar Bazmi, and the film became infamous in the industry for all the behind-the-scenes conflicts.

Despite the tension, singing all the songs in that film at such a young age gave Humaira confidence, and she received multiple awards for her performance, propelling her to fame. She even got the opportunity to sing with the legendary Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan later in her career.

When asked about her personal life, Humaira said that she never fell in love with any man before marriage, as she was fully devoted to her career. However, after getting married, she considered her husband her “majazi khuda” (worldly beloved) and gave her love to him alone.

She called one-sided love a waste of time and energy, saying she believes true love should come only after marriage.

Humaira Channa also revealed that when she started singing, her family members criticized her father and accused him of “making his daughter sing for money.” Her uncle even broke off ties with her father.

However, after she gained fame, the same family members reconnected and proudly told others that Humaira Channa was part of their family.
