Deerfield Township emergency alert: A mistakenly issued emergency alert caused widespread confusion across Warren County on Saturday afternoon, as many Greater Cincinnati residents' phones buzzed with a warning to secure their homes, a message originally intended for only a small neighborhood, as per a report.

The Butler County Sheriff's Office's posted on the social media site Facebook, saying, "If you received an alert to shelter in place, please be advised it was mistakenly sent out by another agency to the entire Tri-State area. This alert does NOT apply to Butler County residents. It is intended ONLY for residents of Deerfield Township in Warren County. There is no threat to Butler County at this time," as per the post.
The SWAT standoff itself remains an active situation, but authorities have not yet released details about the reason for the standoff or why the alert was sent out, according to WLWT5. The incident is confined to the Woodfield development, and law enforcement had urged only those living in the immediate area to stay indoors with windows and doors secured, as per the report.
Around 1:34 p.m., about an hour after the initial alert, a third message was sent out, officially canceling the wider alert, saying "Cancel safety alert, situation is focused at Spring Mill Way, Deerfield Twp. No threats to rest of Warren County," as quoted by WLWT5.

“Emergency Alert,” the message read, “Secure doors and windows,” as reported by WLWT5. It urged people to remain indoors but offered no further explanation, as per the report.
