New Delhi . Major changes are coming from 1 August 2025 for those who pay from UPI. The National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) has issued new rules, of which the most special is, after every successful transaction, the bank will tell you how much balance is left in the account. This is so that you do not see the balance repeatedly and the pressure on the system is reduced.

These are 5 main changes

1. Balance check limit: Now you will be able to see the balance only 50 times on any one app (eg PhonePe, GPAY) in a day. If you use two apps (eg Paytm + PhonePe), then there will be a different limit of 50 times on each app. The busy time (10 am – 10 am and 5 pm – 9:30 pm) will ban the balance or limit.

2. Auto balance update after every transaction: Big relief for shopkeepers, handlers or businessmen! Now after every successful payment, the bank will send SMS or notifications and tell the remaining amount. There will be no need to check the balance again and again.

3. Information of linked bank accounts: Now you will be able to see the list of bank accounts connected to your mobile number daily only 25 times. This is also only when you choose a bank and approve it.

4. New Autope’s new schedule: Auto payments like Netflix, Amazon Prime or SIP will now be charged only in non-peak hours:

– Before 10 am

– 1 pm to 5 pm

– After 9:30 pm

– Autope will remain closed in busy time (peak hours).

5. Rules to check transaction status: AIf the payment fails or stuck, then its situation will be able to check only after 90 seconds. This can be done only 3 times a day and every time a difference of 45–60 seconds is necessary.

Other important changes

Annual audit: Each bank will have to audit its system once a year. The first report will have to be submitted by 31 August 2025.

Chargesback Limit: Only 10 times in 30 days will be able to ask for payment reversal.

No effect on original payment: Main services like transfer or merchant payment will not be affected by these rules.

Why this change?

In the last months, the burden on the UPI server had increased, causing complaints of transaction failure or slow. According to NPCI, repeated checks or autope processing put pressure on the system. The new rules will reduce the server load and UPI will run smooth.
