Given the increasing cyber crimes in India, the government has made several important efforts to control them under an organized and multi -level strategy. According to the seventh schedule of the Indian Constitution, ‘Police’ and ‘Public Systems’ fall under the jurisdiction of state governments. Therefore, the prevention, investigation and prosecution of cyber crime is the responsibility of the state governments. However, the central government is providing technical, legal and financial assistance to the states and union territories in this direction.

The most prominent example of this is the establishment of the Cyber Crime Coordination Center of India (I4C), which operates under the Ministry of Home Affairs. The aim of i4C is to deal with cyber offenses coordinated and widely. Under this, the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) has been created, where citizens can directly file reports of cyber crimes, especially in cases against women and children.

The CFCFRMS system was introduced in 2021 to prevent financial cyber crime, which has so far saved more than Rs 5,489 crore from fraud. Apart from this, accelerated assistance is also being provided to citizens through toll-free number 1930.

To make cyber checks effective in the country, a state -of -the -art National Cyber Forensic Laboratory has been established in New Delhi. It has so far assisted in more than 12,460 cases. Also, under the Cyber Crime Prevention Scheme (CCPWC) against women and children, states are being assisted for establishment and training of forensic laboratories.

Under the i4C, more than 1 lakh police officers have been given cyber investigation, forensic and prosecution online training through Cyclops (SITETRAC) MOOC platform. Analytical modules such as reflections facilitate monitoring and action from geographically.

In addition, ‘Cooperation’ portal has become an effective means to increase contact with IT mediators and remove illegal digital content. So far 9 central and 34 state agencies have been linked to this portal.

Due to all these efforts, 10,599 accused so far arrested, 26,096 contact and 63,019 cyber inquiry assistance requests have been fulfilled.
