Mandi: According to authorities, torrential rains that hit the Mandi district early on Tuesday caused severe damage and created a flood-like condition across the area, resulting in two fatalities and two missing persons.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Rohit Rathour told the media, “There have been reports of a lot of damage due to heavy rain around 4 am. There have been two fatalities and two reported missing persons.
Debris from the higher areas has settled in the lower regions as a result of the severe rains. The cause of this might be a cloudburst. Right now, every official is working on relief efforts. We were contacted about damage close to Jail Road. The event has claimed the lives of many individuals. Two corpses have been discovered,” Rathour said.
Life in the Himachal Pradesh district of Mandi has been affected by the torrential rains that have been falling since late Monday night. Since 11 PM, the area has been suffering from nonstop rain, which has caused flooding in many areas of the town.
The Zonal Hospital Mandi is among the worst-hit places, with heavy water buildup and overflow from adjacent drains. The hospital’s primary entry route is now blocked.
According to local government reports, there have been many landslides in and around Mandi town, causing traffic jams and putting citizens who live in landslide-prone regions at risk. The confusion has been exacerbated by the blocking of important internal roadways by debris from these landslides.
The Chandigarh-Manali National Highway (NH-3) has been blocked at many points between Mandi and Kullu, making the situation even more dire. Long lines have been reported from many choke points along the highway, and some cars are stalled.
The State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) and the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) previously reported on the extensive disruption in the state, stating that as of the evening of July 28, 110 water supply schemes were impacted, 200 roads were still blocked, and 62 power transformers were out of commission as a result of the continuous, intense rains.
164 people have died in the state so far during the 2025 monsoon season, which runs from June 20 to July 28. According to official statistics, 74 people have died in traffic accidents, and 90 of these fatalities are attributable to rain-related causes, including landslides, flash floods, cloudbursts, drowning, and electrocution.
Mandi has had the most deaths (32), followed by Kangra (24) and Chamba (17) in terms of districts. In addition to the human tragedies, there has been substantial damage to houses, animals, and public property, and more than Rs 1,52,311 lakh in economic damages have been documented so far.
