Google street view privacy violation: In Argentina Google Street View A shocking case has come to light, where the naked picture of a police officer was taken from the backyard of his own house. The incident took place in the year 2017, when the person was in his private premises and around it was 6 feet 6 inches high. This picture was taken by Google Street View Car, in which not only he appeared completely naked, but the number of his house and the name of the street was also clearly visible.
The police officer by profession, the victim told the court that after the picture went viral, he became a joking character among his workplace and nearby people. According to a report by CBS News, Google published a picture of a filter or blur on its platform, making its identity public.
The official initiated legal action against Google in 2019, but at that time the lower court dismissed the case saying that the person was “not aware of the case.” Now an appellate court has overturned the decision and ordered Google to be convicted and ordered a compensation of Rs 10.8 lakh ($ 12,500).
The argument given by Google that “the height of the wall was not enough,” the court rejected outright. The court said in clear terms, “This picture is taken from within the boundary wall of someone’s house, not a public place. It is an open violation of privacy.”
The court said, “No one wants to face the world in the same condition he was born.” The court described Google’s negligence as serious and considered it a violation of the right to privacy.
According to Google’s Street View Policy, it automatically stains the number plate of faces and vehicles. In addition, any user can ask to blur their home, car or any information through the ‘Report a Problem’ tool. But in this case, Google did not take any precautions, due to which this serious mistake was revealed.
