Bhubaneswar: To determine the degree of damage and evaluate current relief operations, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and senior ministers flew over flood-affected regions in north Odisha on Tuesday.
The worst-affected districts, such as Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, and Kendujhar, were inspected by the chief minister. Special Relief Commissioner Deoranjan Kumar Singh, Higher Education, Sports, and Youth Affairs Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, and Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari were with him.
The Chief Minister assessed the damage from the recent floods brought on by excessive rains and overflowing rivers.
In order to assess the ground-level reaction and guarantee efficient coordination, he had talks with local authorities after the inspection, including district collectors, block-level officers, and representatives from other agencies.
The Chief Minister stated in a statement, “I have instructed officials to improve administrative coordination and guarantee that all required government assistance reaches the affected people promptly.”
In order to assess the ground-level reaction and guarantee efficient coordination, CM Majhi met with local authorities—district collectors, block-level officers, and representatives from other departments—after the aerial inspection.
The Chief Minister stated in a statement, “I have instructed officials to improve administrative coordination and guarantee that all required government assistance reaches the affected people promptly.”
Majhi said that two blocks each in the districts of Bhadrak and Jajpur, as well as four blocks in Balasore, had been affected by flooding. In 81 villages spread over these regions, almost 30,000 people have been impacted.
Majhi promised that as river levels had begun to drop, the issue is now under control. He said that “immediate relief has already been provided to the affected areas” and that district collectors are providing thorough reports on the matter.
According to him, cooked meals and dry food products are being delivered at 16 places in Balasore, 10 in Bhadrak, and 3 in Jajpur. He also said that cooked food would be provided in the flood-affected districts for a further seven days. Houses and roads have been damaged, and after assessment reports are obtained, the aid required for repairs will be provided.
The Chief Minister said that orders have been given to implement post-flood repair procedures and guarantee a safe supply of drinking water. He also said that antidotes for snakebite have been stored in hospitals as a precaution and that compensation would be given for animal fatalities.
Roads and bridges have been severely damaged, and some homes have fallen. In order to provide financial help, concerned departments have been instructed to evaluate the damages and submit reports. New dwellings will be given to those that have lost their homes.
While some places have begun to see a reduction in floods, other areas are still flooded and will likely take an additional two days to drain completely. All authorities have been told to be alert and concentrate on the changing circumstances.
The CM underlined that the state’s catastrophe response had shown significant progress in reaching zero deaths.
