Stumps got called on Day 1 of the 5th Test against England as India posted a score of 204/6. Being invited to bat first in overcast conditions and rain interruptions, the visitors did not manage to perform well and lost crucial wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswl, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja.
Yashasvi Jaiswal departed for 2 off 9 balls, KL Rahul departed for 14 off 40 balls, Sai Sudharsan played considerably well but only scored 38 off 108. Captain Shubman Gill could not impress with his bat once again and scored only 21 off 35 balls. Ravindra Jadeja also failed to have an impact and left the field for 9 off 13 balls, along with Dhruv Jurel leaving the field for 19 off 40 balls.
Washington Sundar stayed unbeaten when stumps got called- with a score of 19* off 45 balls, along with Karun Nair- who stole the show after scoring his first Test fifty in 9 long years- and with a score of 52* off 98 balls.
