The story of Nanu Gupta from Haryana is one inspiring for many youngsters. He was Born in 1942 into a farmers family in Haryana but later moved to Mumbai in 1954. Through hard work he went on to establish Vijay Sales which is one of India’s most prominent electronics retail chains. Story Of Vijay Sales Vijay Sales has over 120 stores across India and records annual sales of more than Rs 4000 crore. It all started with just Rs 2000. Nanu started his journey by selling fans and sewing machines for Usha International Limited. But this was the place where he learnt the art of understanding customers and dealing with them effectively. In 1967 he opened a small 50–60 square-foot shop in Matunga Mumbai and named it Vijay Sales after his brother. The store sold sewing machines and fans. By 1974 he began selling black-and-white televisions. When color TVs entered the market Nanu took a bold step at that time. He purchased a larger space in Mahim to display the TVs in an attractive manner. His son Nilesh Gupta once mentioned how risky that decision was at the time but Nanus vision paid off. His strategy was to keep all the TVs running in-store to attract customers visually. How Vijay Sales Became Successful? One of Nanus specialties was his commitment to winning customer trust. At a time when EMIs were not common he offered customers the option to pay in installments. If a customer ever faced a problem with a product he would personally visit their home to resolve the issue. This honesty and dedication to service won people over. By 2006–07 Vijay Sales had 8–10 stores in Mumbai. Around that time the company purchased a four-story store in Goregaon with each floor measuring about 1300 square feet. In 2007–08 it expanded to Pune Ahmedabad Surat and Delhi reaching Rs 500 crore in revenue. Vijay Sales Expansion That same year Vijay Sales started offering digital products like mobile phones and computers. Today the company sells more than 3500 products across 11+ categories with stores in Maharashtra Gujarat Delhi Haryana Uttar Pradesh Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Nanu Gupta is a Chairman of the company while his sons Nilesh and Ashish Gupta are Directors. His grandson Karan Gupta is also involved in the business. In 2021 a senior company official shared that Vijay Sales will reach Rs 8000 to Rs 10000 crore in sales by 2025 and open 200 stores.
