Tesla model y india price: Elon Musk’s leading electric vehicle company Tesla has recently launched its first electric SUV Tesla Model Y in India. Along with this, the company’s first showroom was also opened at Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC). However, the price of this car has been much higher than other countries in the Indian market, which has given rise to discussions between customers and experts.

Why double the price in India?

In India, the initial price of Tesla Model Y has been kept at ₹ 60 lakh, while in China the same car is available for 263,500 yuan i.e. about ₹ 32 lakhs. Similarly, Tesla’s cars in markets like America and Germany are cheaper than India.

What is the reason behind this heavy price?

The main reason for this heavy price in India is high import duty. In India, if a car comes in a fully made of CBU – Completely Built Unit, it is taxed up to about 70%. That is, the price of the car only increases by more than ₹ 21 lakh in tax. Apart from this, transportation expenses from logistics, custom duty, and Shanghai plant to Mumbai also affect the price.

Variants and Range of Tesla Model Y

The company has launched Model Y in two variants:

  • Standard rwd variants: It has a 60KWH LFP battery, which once gives a range of up to 500 km on charge. This car can catch a speed of 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds.
  • Long range rwd variants: It has a 75kwh NMC battery, which is capable of giving a driving range of up to 622 km and can catch a speed of 0 to 100 km/h in less than 5 seconds.

Number one in features also

Tesla Model Y has many advanced features such as:

  • Over-the-air software updates
  • Different touchscreen for rear seat
  • Electric adjustable rear seats
  • Premium sound system
  • Real-time control through Tesla App

This offering of Tesla in India is an attempt to give a new direction to the premium EV segment, although its price remains a big question at the moment.
