New Delhi. A high level Committee, a high level committee to apply satellite based toll system (Satellite Based) on National Highways across the country (Satellite Based) has recommended a high level committee to this technique and discussion on the issues of safety and privacy. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari informed in the Rajya Sabha that the government has currently decided to apply to the Fastag system based on automatic number plate recognition technology, ie AFS to the corridor or certain parts.
Gadkari informed that so far a satellite-based user fee collection system is not operational on any national highway in the country. However, the government is working on a plan to implement this technology. So that the toll collection system can be made more transparent. This system claims to make the journey more faster and convenient than the current fastag.
Gadkari said that to make the toll more efficient and inhale, the government has decided to implement multi-lane free flow based electronic toll collection system. In this system, vehicles will not have to stop or slow down at a toll plaza. Along with the fastag, this new system is also being implemented as an experiment in some selected parts. Where the vehicles passing through will be able to pay their toll directly without stopping.
Gadkari said that the Apex Committee and the High Level Committee formed for this new system, including experts from the industry and educational world, have stated the need for further discussion on this system keeping in mind the points to security, confidentiality and operation. The government has also invited requests for proposal (RFP) for this. That is, the process of implementing it will start soon.
Meanwhile, the government has completed preparations to launch the fastag annual pass. This pass will be available from August 15 across the country, which passengers will be able to buy directly from NHAI or MRTH website or ‘Highway’ mobile app for Rs 3,000. It will remain valid to one year or 200 toll transactions (which is first). The government claims that this pass will reduce travel expenses for passengers. However, this facility will be for private passenger vehicles only.
