Two American tourists have been jailed for stealing luxury goods, including a Louis Vuitton card holder, while transiting through Singapore’s Changi Airport.
Kapadia Husain Zoher, 35, was sentenced to 18 days in jail on Aug. 4 after pleading guilty to a theft charge.
His wife, Kapadia Amatullah, 30, received a one-week jail term after admitting to a similar charge, according to The Straits Times.
The couple committed the thefts while waiting for a connecting flight to India. Although they managed to board their Mumbai-bound plane, they were apprehended before takeoff.
At around 5 p.m. on June 23, Zoher entered a Louis Vuitton store at Terminal 1, took a card holder worth approximately S$600 (US$466), slipped it into his pocket, and left without paying, Mothership reported.
CCTV footage captured his act.
Later, the couple visited Cosmetics & Perfumes by The Shilla at Terminal 3, where Zoher stole a bottle of Dior Sauvage perfume worth around S$160, while Amatullah acted as a lookout.
They again left without paying, and security footage recorded the theft.
Both items were recovered and returned to the respective stores.
Changi was named the world’s best airport for 2025 at the World Airport Awards, organized by London-based aviation consultancy Skytrax.
