Passengers at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Georgia, the U.S., were caught off guard on Tuesday when water began pouring from the ceiling at one of its terminals.
Viral video footage shared on social media shows what appears to be brown, sewage-like water raining down from above.
“As we’re waiting, we see water just pouring from the ceiling. It had been pouring consistently for maybe 10 to 15 seconds,” eyewitness Jamaal Carlos Jr., who filmed the incident on Aug. 4, told local news outlet 11 Alive.
“And it just progressively got worse. The ceiling fell through, and it stinks really bad.”
According to witnesses, it took airport staff five to 10 minutes to respond and begin cleaning up the spill, People reported.
Airport officials said the incident did not affect overall operations, though one security checkpoint was temporarily closed.
The cause of the leak is currently under investigation.
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport was the busiest airport in the world last year, according to a report published today by Airports Council International World.
The airport, which is Delta Air Lines’ largest hub, processed more than 108 million passengers in 2024.
