Synopsis

Following an attack on his convoy in Cooch Behar, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Samik Bhattacharya seeks a Rajya Sabha discussion. Suvendu Adhikari has filed a complaint naming 41 individuals, including Minister Udayan Guha, while police have arrested seven in connection with the incident. Guha denies involvement and criticizes Adhikari's remarks regarding the arrests, further escalating the tensions.

BJP Rajya Sabha MP and state President Samik Bhattacharya on Wednesday gave notice for discussion under Rule 267 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in Council of State (Rajya Sabha) to discuss the attack on the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Suvendu Adhikari in West Bengal’s Cooch Behar. Meanwhile, Adhikari has named a total 41 persons, including a state minister, in his complaint on the attack on his convoy by a group of Trinamool Congress activists on Tuesday in Cooch Behar.

West Bengal minister of state in charge of the North Bengal Development department Udayan Guha has been named in the complaint by Adhikari’s counsel.

Meanwhile, Cooch Behar district police have informed on Wednesday that the total number of arrests has increased to seven from three in connection with the attack on Adhikari’s convoy.

Guha said Adhikari made against the Police superintendent but his name was not there in the complaint.

" Not a single Rohingya or Bangladeshi Muslim has been arrested, nor were their names mentioned in the police complaint. He should apologise for his comments. Those who will show disrespect to Bengalis and the Bengali language will be shown black flags," said Guha.

Adhikari's convoy was attacked yesterday at Cooch Behar town in Bengal’s Coochbehar district when he reached there for a protest rally.

Adhikari, with 65 other party legislators, was scheduled to take out a rally in Cooch Behar town to the Police Superintendent’s office and submit a memorandum on the attacks on elected BJP representatives in the district in the recent past.

When Adhikari’s convoy reached Khagrabari, a group of Trinamool Congress activists tried to block the vehicles and a vehicle of his convoy was vandalized.
