Japan, voted as “world’s most favorite destination” last year, topped a list of five Asian countries with the highest number of repeat visitors, according to travel platform Agoda.
Thailand ranked second, followed by Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia, based on Agoda’s booking data for the first half of this year.
Thanks to weakened yen and relaxed visa policies, Japan has become a tourism success story in Asia.
A record 21.5 million tourists visited Japan in the first six months of the year, a 21% increase year-on-year.
The country expects 40 million foreign visitors by the end of this year.
Japan was named the world’s most favorite travel destination by readers of Condé Nast Traveler in the 2024 edition of the magazine’s annual Readers’ Choice Awards. It logged more than 36.8 million tourist arrivals last year.
Agoda’s Ranking Also Highlights 10 Asian Destinations that receive the highst number of repeat visitors, which are Bangkok (Thailand), Tokyo (Japan), Seoul (Korea), Bali (Indonesia), Osaka (Japan), Taipei (Taiwan), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Johor Bahru (Malaysia), DA NANG (MALAYSI) (Vietnam) and Hong Kong.
Each offers its own unique mix of attractions, from culinary delights to cultural experiences, ensuring there’s always something new to explore, Agoda said.
