Mumbai: Did the latest attack on Kapil Sharma’s Kap’s Café in Canada have anything to do with the comedian’s association with actor Salman Khan?
A voice note by Lawrence Bishnoi gang member Harry Boxer, apparently accessed by India Today, claims that anybody who works with Salman will be killed.
“The first and now second firing at Kapil Sharma’s restaurant happened because he had invited Salman Khan to the inauguration on a Netflix show. If anyone works with Salman, whether a small-time actor or a small-time director, we will not spare anyone. We will kill them. We will go to any extent necessary to kill them,” Boxer says.
Kap’s Café, in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, is owned by Sharma and his wife Ginni Chatrath. It came under attack for the second time in less than a month on Thursday (August 7).
A video circulating on social media captured the intensity of the attack, with at least 25 gunshots heard. Goldy Dhillon, another member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, allegedly claimed responsibility through a Facebook post.
According to the post: “JAI SHRI RAM, Satshriakal ram sare bhaiyo ko aj jo y kapil sharma k kaps cafe.. Surrey m firing hui iski jimevari, Goldy dhillon, Lawrence bishnoi gang lete h isko hamne call ki thi isko ring nhi sunai di to karwai krni pdi ab b ring n sunegi to next karwai jaldi hi Mumbai krege.”
This effectively translates to: “I Goldy Dhillon, of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, take responsibility for the firing at Kap’s Café. We had called him, but he did not hear the ring. If he is unable to hear the ring again then the next action will be in Mumbai.”
The Mumbai Police’s Crime Branch is checking the authenticity of this Facebook post. The police will also speak to Sharma and provide him security cover if required.
The restaurant had come under a similar attack on July 10. Authorities had then traced the attack to the Laddi Gang that is linked to the banned Khalistani outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). The BKI had then apparently claimed responsibility for the attack for alleged disparaging remarks made against Nihangs in one of Sharma’s shows.
Last week, Sharma and Ginni shared images and videos of local authorities in Surrey having food at the Café. “Thank you Mayor Brenda Locke, @surreypoliceservice and all the officials who visited @thekapscafe_ to show their love and support. United we stand against violence. We’re truly grateful,” they jointly posted.
