Synopsis

Karnataka BJP president BY Vijayendra on Friday rejected Rahul Gandhi’s claim that surveys predict a Congress win in 16 Lok Sabha seats in the state, calling it baseless. He said no such survey exists and suggested Gandhi was misinformed by Congress leaders.

Karnataka BJP president BY Vijayendra on Friday dismissed Rahul Gandhi’s claim that surveys predicted a win for the Congress in 16 LS seats in Karnataka.

No survey said so, he told mediapersons, reacting to Gandhi’s attacks on the BJP. “Congress fools must have told him this.”

In 2019, the BJP won 25 LS seats but won fewer seats in last year’s elections even with an alliance with the JDS. Can the BJP blame it on irregularities, he asked.

On Mahadevapura, Vijayendra challenged Gandhi, chief minister Siddaramaiah, and Dy CM DK Shivakumar to first check how many fake voters there are in Chamrajpet and Shivajinagar, constituencies with the highest minority populations, and then come for a discussion.

Former Mahadevapura MLA Aravinda Limbavali said the BJP has consistently improved its vote count in the constituency, responding to Gandhi’s allegations of vote-theft.

The party has had an organic growth in the assembly constituency and Gandhi must understand this, he told the media. His wife Manjula S won the seat in the 2023 assembly polls.

The BJP has bagged the highest number of votes in Mahadevapura in both LS and assembly polls since 2008 when the assembly segment was formed, he said, adding that it delivered one lakh plus votes to the party in three elections each held to the LS and assembly.
