Millions of people in India take trains every day. For many trains are a routine necessity; for others trains are an inexpensive and comfortable option for long trips. Indian Railways operates many kinds of trains including local to express and superfast trains. But do you know what was Indias first corporate train?
What is the name of India’s first corporate train?
You have probably traveled by train at least a few times but do you know which is Indias first corporate train? Train travel is no longer just a trip. It has become an experience. That experience started when for the first time ever in the country the management of the running of a train was taken away from the railways and transferred to another entity. This is the story of the Tejas Express which is dubbed a corporate train as it is run by IRCTC with private companies but the trains infrastructure and engines are from the railways.
On which route does India’s first corporate train operate?
The Lucknow-New Delhi Tejas Express became India’s first train to be operated privately under the Indian Railways’ Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model which was introduced in 2019. Following its positive response a second Tejas Express was launched on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route.
While the Tejas Express runs on tracks owned by Indian Railways its operations like ticketing catering and onboard services are operated by IRCTC. This makes it a semi-private venture for improving the travel experience of passengers.
What are the ticket prices for this corporate train?
The Tejas Express offers airline-style amenities like on-board catering a customer-centric experience travel insurance and compensation for delay.
The train has new and modern interiors featuring ergonomic seat designs LCD infotainment screens CCTV function automated doors and bio-vacuum toilets. Each service feature and comfort highlighted offers the passenger a first-class and safe experience.
The Tejas Express line on the Lucknow-Delhi route has only two stoppages—Kanpur and Ghaziabad— before it reaches its destination. Lucknow train departs at 6:10 AM and arrives at Delhi at 12:25 PM. The same day return trip from Delhi departs at 3:35 PM arriving in Lucknow at 10:05 PM.
